Balljoint Movement

A recent vehicle in for repair was Citroen Xsara with a knock when traveling over bumps.

Once the vehicle was jacked up and the suspension was checked,  the lower balljoint on the nearside was found to have excessive play.

The following video shows how much play was apparent when the joint had been removed from the vehicle.

Whilst the rubber boot is still in place and the movement is visible, once the boot is removed you can actually see how the joint has worn to allow this amount of movement.

Also  visible in the video is the split in the rubber boot which has allowed grease out and moisture in thus accelerating the wear in the joint.
