Rear light problems

Now winter is drawing near,  this sort of problem shows up more often, as drivers are told about non working rear lights, they change the necessary bulbs, however, using the wrong bulb or not connecting the multiplug correctly to the light cluster, can lead to further problems as the following video illustrates too well. This video is from a Ford Ka with the multiplug not fully pushed home.

An mot failure of course, but one that is avoidable if you check for correct operation of all the lights in that cluster after replacing a bulb, rather than only the bulb you have replaced.

The problem can also be caused by corroded or damp connections, Vw polos can suffer if the rear washwipe pipe becomes split or disconnected near the nearside rear light connector, leading to washer fluid dripping onto the connector.
